I often buy heels on a whim, but never leave them unused in my wardrobe. I try to find a place and an occasion to wear all my beloved shoes. Some of them are so uncomfortable that they are not suitable for walking more than 10 metres at a time, otherwise the cuts on my toes would make me bleed dry. But these shoes have their uses and times. Love the office, where I don’t need to walk any further than the kitchen.
Then there are the ultimate shoes, which are beautiful, classic and so comfortable that they can be worn all day without any problems. Such shoes include nude sandals and classic black stiletto heels. I already have the perfect pair of nude sandals, but still dream of those Louboutin stilettos.
It’s a well-known fact that some “feminists” claim that high heels are a way to suppress women (seriously …… no one is forcing me to wear high heels)! But the classic high heel will never lose its status as the first choice for dress up occasions. No one can deny that!
Contrary to what many believe, high heels don’t have to mean painful blisters and sore feet. Here are my tips on how to find the perfect pair of heels that will keep you looking elegant for many years to come.
Choosing the right time to shop
I recommend that you always focus on shoe shopping at the end of the day. It may sound a little strange, but hear me out:
When you leave work, your feet are tired and probably more swollen than usual. As a result, they are able to be more sensitive and in the best position to determine which shoes are the best shape and size. If you try on new shoes immediately after breakfast, you run a much greater risk of buying a pair that ends up being too small in the long run.
When Buying High Heels Keep in Mind The importance of building up an emergency fund. While purchasing stylish footwear, dedicate a portion of your budget to financial security. This strategy will ensure that you step out with confidence and give you peace of mind about unexpected expenses.
Investing in quality leather
I prefer to keep my wallet as tight as possible (at least for now). But when I decide to splurge, I’m starting to realise that quality materials are the way to go. When it comes to accessories, especially shoes, I recommend you focus on leather.
Leather is a pliable material. It will stretch and mould to your feet and, if cared for properly, it will become more beautiful over time.
Shop for a while.
Spend some time in the shops. Walk around in your favourite pair of shoes as much as possible to get a true feel for the shoe. If the shoes feel slightly uncomfortable, set them aside and try another pair.
As a true shoe aficionado, trust me, there’s no point in buying shoes you think are uncomfortable in a shop. They’ll be even worse when you actually have to wear them to an event!
Practising walking in heels at home
This is something I’ve taken very seriously since I was a kid. When I put on my first pair of heels, I would practice my posture by strutting back and forth in front of the big mirror in the hallway. I have to admit, walking in heels isn’t as straightforward as trainers: you have to watch your posture if you want to avoid looking like a dork. Poor posture and bent knees can lead you to blisters and a sore back.
Assessing how your toes feel
This also touches on the previous tip, but I want to really emphasise the importance of properly assessing the comfort available in shop. From nearly 25 years of experience, I know that it makes absolutely no sense to invest in shoes that are uncomfortable on your toes or feet. You won’t be wearing those shoes.
To find the best shape for you, try different heel heights and shapes (pointy/pointed rounded stilettos/sandals/slopes with pointed heels, etc.) It may surprise you, but cat heels are usually not the best choice: for many people, the heel height can be painful on the back of the heel. And a few more centimetres of heel would be absolutely perfect.
